Recovery Centre Advises How To Help Bushfire Victims

Latrobe City Council has advised residents wanting to help people affected by recent bushfires that the best way to provide support is through the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund.

By Latrobe City Council - 20th December 2006 - Back to News

General manager City Services, Peggy Stevenson, said many residents had contacted the Emergency Recovery Centre with offers of help.

The Emergency Recovery Centre is coordinating the relief response to those affected by the fires.

"The best way that those people who have lost property and possessions can be helped is through our residents making a donation to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund," Ms Stevenson said.

"A number of residents have offered goods such as furniture, clothing and food; but these cannot be distributed through the Emergency Recovery Centre," Ms Stevenson said.

Good quality furniture and clothing is often sought by opportunity shops and the opportunity shops themselves should be contacted if people have goods they would like to donate. A list of opportunity shops appears on council’s website www.latrobe.vic.gov.au Click on Council Services / Recycling and Waste Services / Community Pick-Up Services.

Donations to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund can be made via the post or at any National Australia Bank in Gippsland. Donation cheques can be posted to PO Box 508, Traralgon, 3844.
