By Latrobe City Shire Council - 12th April 2007 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s youth services programs officer, Nicole Carder said that the free event would see five up and coming bands battle it out for a prize of ten hours of recording time worth over $1000.

"The competition will showcase local bands ‘Since 91’, ‘Bleeding Sadists’, ‘Sticky Icky’, ‘The Do-overs’ and ‘Tragedy in a Fish Bowl’. Also performing will be 2006 winners ‘Straight 80’ who have gone on to play with ‘Killing Heidi’, ‘Body Jar’ and recently ‘Behind Crimson Eyes’," Ms Carder explained.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for bands to showcase their music and for members of the community to enjoy a free afternoon of music in the park. The soundshell will be the ideal venue for these local musicians to really show off their talents and to experience performing in an open air setting in front of a good crowd.

"With a prestigious prize of valuable studio recording hours up for grabs, and having seen the success that the 2006 winners have enjoyed, it should be an awesome concert," Ms Carder added.

Free transport will be available from Moe, Morwell, Churchill and Traralgon, including Neighbourhood Renewal areas, however bookings for the bus are essential.

Bus bookings can be made by calling Latrobe City Council on 1300 367 700.

Members of the FReeZA committee have worked in partnership with Latrobe City Rural Access and Latrobe Valley Neighbourhood Renewal to ensure the event is accessible and enjoyable for all young people. The event has disability access, is drug, alcohol and smoke free, fully supervised and runs from 11am to 3pm.
