School Holiday Workshops At The GalleryWith another week or so of the holidays left, you might be looking for other ways to occupy the children. Have you thought about taking the children to the workshops being run at the Latrobe Regional Gallery? By Latrobe City Shire Council - 12th April 2007 - Back to News Gallery Director, Jacqui Hemsley said that the workshops offered art and craft-based learning to children aged between 7 and 12 years and for the younger ones, aged 3 to 6 years.
"For the older child, the workshops encourage participants to look at artworks closely and explore their own reactions to works while learning about the art, the artist and the medium," Ms Hemsley explained.
"On Tuesday 10 April from 10.30am to 12noon there will be a Millinery workshop. Participants will learn basic millinery techniques while designing a freeform headpiece out a variety of fascinating and unique materials.
"On Thursday 12 April from 10.30am to 12noon, the workshop on Sculptural Vessels is based on the Ranamok 2006 glass prize exhibition. Participants will focus on creating amazing yet functional sculptural vessels.
Ms Hemsley added that family art workshops for the younger visitor, aged 3 to 6 years, were designed to build on a child’s interests, prior knowledge and experiences to stimulate their curiosity about art.
"On Wednesday 11 April from 10.30am to 11.30am, the workshop Bold Bowls, in response to the Ranamok 2006 glass prize exhibition, will introduce participants to the fascinating art of glass making and develop their design skills by creating a functional and decorative bowl," Ms Hemsley explained.
The cost for attending the school holiday workshops is $8.80 and for the family art sessions, the cost is $5. An adult must accompany a child at the family art sessions. Bookings for the workshops must be made with the Gallery, prior to attending.
The Latrobe Regional Gallery is open 7 days, Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am – 4pm. Admission is free.
