Youth Council office bearers elected

The Latrobe City 2006 youth council elections recently took place at the first youth council meeting for 2006 with three young people elected to office bearing roles.

Kalinda Lees from the Gippsland Education Precinct was elected to the position of junior mayor; Samantha Holcombe from Kurnai College, Churchill was elected to the position of deputy junior mayor and Jessica Tucker from Traralgon College was elected to the position of secretary.

Latrobe City community development officer, Teresa Pugliese said that Kalinda, Samantha and Jessica were delighted to be elected to their respective positions by their fellow youth councillors.

"These three young people will lead the youth council for the year, giving them an invaluable experience as well as an insight into the demands of a position of leadership," Ms Pugliese explained.

Ms Pugliese said that after the elections, all twelve youth councillors had the opportunity to meet with Latrobe City’s councillors and senior executive team managers, during an informal dinner.

"The representatives also met at an induction day held at Latrobe Regional Gallery where they were given the opportunity to learn some new skills and have some fun while getting to know each other," Ms Pugliese added.

Latrobe City’s mayor, councillor Lisa Price extended her best wishes to the youth council.

"This is the beginning of an important year in their lives. Not only are they representing their schools, they are the face and voice of young people in Latrobe City. We pass on to them our best wishes for their term in office and hope that they find the experience invaluable as they continue their education and onto their chosen careers," Cr Price concluded.

The twelve youth council representatives for 2006 are Jessica Arnold (Kurnai Maryvale), Mario Cassar (GETT Centre), Samantha Holcombe (Deputy Junior Mayor) (Kurnai Churchill), Alma Kliko (Lowanna College), Nicole Krause (St Pauls Anglican Grammar), Kalinda Lees (Junior Mayor) (Gippsland Education Precinct), Paul Metlikovec (Gippsland Education Precint), Candice Richardson (Lowanna College), Michael Sands (Gippsland Education Precinct), Jessica Tucker (Secretary) (Traralgon College), Gareth Williams (Traralgon College) and Daniel Yacoub (Kurnai Churchill).
