Jennifer Plans To Explore Business Opportunities In ChinaTraralgon based business, Jennifer Jones Planning Consultants will join other Latrobe City businesses who are about to leave for China as part of a sister-city By Latrobe City Shire Council - 12th April 2007 - Back to News delegation aimed to learn about possible business opportunities in China.
Over the last 10 years, the business, owned and operated by Jennifer Jones has specialised in providing strategic and statutory planning advice to state and local governments as well as to private sector clients.
"My business has focussed on implementation of the Victorian Government planning regulations and assistance with preparation of new planning schemes throughout the region," Ms Jones said.
"Together with our work with the Department of Infrastructure, we have advised on the rewording of fire related controls in the Victorian Planning Provisions and worked with the CFA on investigations into the January 2003 fires in Gippsland and Victoria’s North East.
"The work of a planner is quite varied and it is in this context that China’s complex business environment definitely interests me. Government and business leaders are now beginning to seek advisory services about planning regulations and their effective implementation. Australia is well placed to make a positive contribution. I wish to explore the implications of these trends both for Australian business as well doing business in China for my business. This opportunity coordinated by Latrobe City Council provides an ideal opportunity for me to learn more about their culture and way of doing business."
Also working with the CFA, Ms Jones’ expertise in developing controls to minimise fire risk has seen her developing and delivering an accredited training course where participants learn how to design houses to withstand wildfire.
"Recent work including drafting flood overlay amendments for local governments, rezoning submissions and preparation of new planning schemes may well be of interest to Chinese authorities. In fact, last year I gave a presentation to visiting government officials from Taizhou, sister-city to Latrobe City, and they were extremely interested and impressed with the scope of work undertaken by town planners in Australia," Ms Jones concluded.
The Latrobe City business delegation leaves for China in mid May and plans to visit the City of Taizhou and Shanghai.
