Move Wind Farm Hearing To Foster: Hall

Gippsland MP Peter Hall has made a plea for a Planning Panels Victoria public hearing into the Dollar Wind Farm to be made closer to the affected residents.

Mr Hall has written to the Panel Co-ordinator, Diana Michetti, asking that the hearing be held in Foster, rather than Coal Creek at Korumburra.

Mr Hall had previously discussed the need to hold directional hearings within the region and was pleased that at least some were held in South Gippsland.

"It certainly was appreciated by South Gippsland residents," Mr Hall said in his letter to the Panel’s Co-ordinator.

"(However) I have now been made aware that some of the panel hearings themselves are likely to be held in Korumburra at Coal Creek. While I acknowledge that this is a step in the right direction, I wish to advise panel members that a more acceptable location, so far as local residents who are directly affected by this project, would be Foster. "

Mr Hall pointed out that a trip to Coal Creek could involve as much as an hour’s drive for many who wanted to present at the hearing.

"Residents in this area with work commitments, cows to milk and children to take to and from school will struggle to meet the two hours of travel required to and from Coal Creek," he said.

"The panel would receive a much more favourable reception if it were to demonstrate a willingness to facilitate easier access to the hearings by locating at Foster."

Mr Hall asked that his "strong wishes" be conveyed to the panel, for the benefit of local communities.
