Water Restrictions Lifted In Boisdale, Stratford And Maffra

Gippsland Water has announced that water restrictions will be lifted for customers in Boisdale, Maffra, and Stratford, who are currently on Stage Two Water Restrictions. This will take effect from 1am on Monday 8 October 2007.

From this date, all Gippsland Water customers across its service area will be on Permanent Water Saving Rules, with the exception of customers in Coongulla and Glenmaggie, who will remain on Stage Four Water Restrictions due to ongoing water quality issues resulting from last summer’s bushfires.

The Permanent Water Saving Rules were introduced in 2005 to promote water conservation as part of our everyday lives, rather than something that has to be done under water restrictions.

Permanent Water Saving Rules cover a number of areas including residential and commercial gardening, water fountains, vehicle cleaning, swimming pools and spas, cleaning of paved areas, water cartage and the construction industry.

All customers need to be aware that Permanent Water Saving Rules are in place at all times unless water restrictions are imposed. Gippsland Water will continue to monitor water storage levels and inflows closely and water restrictions could be imposed if required.

There are five main Permanent Water Saving Rules for residential customers:

Gardens

Watering systems (automatic and manual) can be used between 8pm to 10am daily.

Hand-held hoses must be fitted with a trigger nozzle. You may water with a hand-held hose at any time.

Watering your lawn is permitted under Permanent Water Saving Rules.

Car washing

Use a bucket, watering can, high pressure cleaning unit or hand-held hose with a trigger nozzle.

Cleaning paved areas

The hosing of all paved areas (such as patios, driveways, courtyards and paths) is banned.

Pools and spas

Filling a new or existing pool or spa above 2,000 litres needs approval from Gippsland Water.

Full details of Permanent Water Saving Rules and applications for exemptions can be obtained by visiting www.gippswater.com.au or contacting the Gippsland Water Service Centre on 1800 066 401.
