Manager Assets Gordon Charles said the open yards at the rear of the covered section of the complex where there are water troughs, will be made available.

Mr Charles said that there were cattle sales being held at the Livestock Exchange today and tomorrow.

"We will be able to accept horses at no charge to owners from late Friday afternoon and if demand is great it may also be possible to store them under roofed area of the sale yards," he said.

Mr Charles said the horses would be held at the owners risk and it will also be the owner’s responsibility to feed and monitor their animals.

"Horses will be allowed to be stored under these arrangements until the immediate fire threat to the owners' respective properties is over."

Storage of the horses will be managed by, Council's Saleyards Supervisor, Terry Dervusoski who should be phoned on 0417 707540 before horses are brought to the complex.
