The Sun Surf Sand 2007 Festival of Fun and Learning magazine was officially launched by on Monday, 11 December, by Bass Coast CEO, Allan Bawden. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 18th December 2006 - Back to News The launch took place at popular Wonthaggi venue, Over 2 Ricks. Mr Bawden launched the Festival by opening up a beach umbrella and pretending to be an old fashioned seabather.
With a sun, surf and sand beach theme, over 60 people enjoyed food, wine and activities, including spinning wheel with prizes. An added feature was local Poem teller, Malcom Brodie who recited the poem entitled, "Voyage of the Scots Lords".
Festival partners
Festival Co-ordinator, Michelle Evans-Hammer welcomed the crowd and acknowledged Mayor Festival Partners, the Bass Coast Shire and Quiksilver.
Ms Evans-Hammer also acknowledged the community houses and other involved in the preparation of the magazine.
"There are four community houses from across the Shire involved in this project," said Ms Evans-Hammer.
"I need to thank Jan Bourne from Mitchell Community House in Wonthaggi, John Wauchope from Inverloch Community House, Glen Miles and Anwyn Martin from Corinella & District Community Centre and Imogen Smith from Phillip Island Community & Learning Centre.
A special thank you was sent out to all the advertisers involved, the cover design winner Jodie Dalton and all the events who listed in the program.
Getting involved
Ms Evans-Hammer said the The Sun Surf and Sand 2007 magazine was packed again with events.
"There are all sorts of festivals and classes on offer," said Ms Evans-Hammer.
"There is something to keep all members of the family entertained over the summer and many of these are FREE or cheaper than a family night out on the town.
"Many opportunities have been created to by clubs and organisations for you to "have a go"," continued Ms Evans-Hammer.
"They provide the equipment and the facilities as well as the expertise, so you can get in and enjoy yourself.

Ms Evans-Hammer urged people to get involved in the great activities on offer over the summer. She also said it was not too late to be included as part of the program.
"If you had an event to list and missed our printing deadline we can still add you to the list on the website," said Ms Evans-Hammer.
