Latrobe Valley Events Promoted On Free Mobile App

Latrobe Valley community groups and businesses looking to promote their events can now use a free mobile app, launched by the Victorian Government as part of an effort to improve access to public information.

VicEvents will also allow Victorians to access up-to-the-minute information on events in the Latrobe Valley area from their smartphone. Users can search, find, browse and locate thousands of events including community events, food and wine festivals, and sport.

The app features events from the Latrobe Valley and surrounding areas such as From the Sublime to the Ridiculous: Prints from the Latrobe Regional Gallery Collection (Latrobe Regional Gallery), the Traralgon and District Agricultural Show and Latrobe City Sauna Sail.

Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips encouraged all Victorians to use the app as a key marketing tool for their events, and to find out what’s happening throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria.

"The app covers major tourism events as well as community and regional events in Victoria and importantly, it’s free, fast to access, and convenient to use to find out what’s on," Mr Rich-Phillips said.

"Users can search events by category, location, direction, date range and then simply add to their smartphone’s calendar."

Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the app was an innovative way of attracting locals and visitors to regional events.

"As a regional area, we often have a number of very unique events happening in our communities. This app will be a great way to keep locals and those visiting the Latrobe Valley informed about what is happening and where," Mr Northe said.

"Also, as Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, I believe this new service will be advantageous for local businesses to promote their goods and services to a broader audience."

Mr Rich-Phillips said the app also had the ability for users to share events via email, Twitter and Facebook with friends and family as well as integrate with a phone’s map and GPS system.

"The Coalition Government is committed to providing an innovative, progressive approach to better communicating with Victorians through the use of innovative technology," Mr Rich-Phillips said.

"The app supports the innovative use of technology to share information for the benefit of Victorians."
