Rain has fallen across most of the fire area in Gippsland today. Rainfall figures have varied but the cooler conditions are providing some relief from active fire today.

By DSE - 13th February 2009 - Back to News

In the East Tyers - Thomson fire conditions are too dangerous and slippery for fire crews to work. There has been 30 to 40 ml of rain falling in the area today. Once conditions improve fire crews will continue to finish the last 1 km of control line by hand.

On Wilsons Promontory fire activity has also been quiet today. Visibility was hampered by rain this morning however some smoke was observed by ground crews. An air observation flight is going up this afternoon assessing the situation. Crews are continuing to consolidate containment lines.

DSE fire crews have completed control lines on the north, west and south sides of the Dargo-White Timber Spur fire. Conditions are too slippery and wet to continue working on the eastern edge of the fire today. Where conditions allow crews are continuing to put out hot spots and strengthen control lines.

The Wayne Track fire, found yesterday 14km NE of Dargo is now contained.

There is a community meeting at 6.00pm at the Rawson Primary School to bring local residents up-to date with suppression operations and what to expect over the next few days.
