The Gippsland Coastal Board has launched the Gippsland Boating Coastal Action Plan and the Integrated Coastal Planning for Gippsland Coastal Action Plan.

Mr Duncan Malcolm, Chairman of the Gippsland Coastal Board said that both plans cover the Gippsland coastal region and have been approved by the Victorian Government.

"The Gippsland Boating Coastal Action Plan provides for the long term development of recreational boating facilities in Gippsland and includes recommendations and priorities for improving facilities such as boat ramps, moorings, signage and jetties," Mr Malcolm said.

"The boating industry is an important element of the economy of Gippsland and an activity which can be developed further in a sensitive manner with no adverse effects on the unique environment that characterises Gippsland."

Mr Malcolm said that the Integrated Coastal Planning for Gippsland Coastal Action Plan provides for an integrated and consistent approach for coastal planning for Gippsland.

"The Gippsland coast is recognised for its natural, cultural and landscape features and provides for a range of commercial uses. Future planning by Shires and Government agencies must adopt an integrated approach to balance the complex interaction between sensitive coastal values and the on-going demand for people to live in and use the Gippsland coast."

Mr Malcolm thanked the members of the public, special interest groups and Government agencies who provided valuable input and comment during the planning process.

Copies of the plans are available from the Board’s Bairnsdale office (ph 51520451) and can be viewed on the Board’s web site at www.gcb.vic.gov.au
