Moe Cup Day Three-Hour Sale Set To BoomDon't miss the biggest sale day to be seen in Gippsland for years By Chris Buckingham - 10th October 2002 - Back to News Organisers of Moe’s third annual three-hour sale on Thursday, 17 October are praying for fine weather and if the sun shines are confident that it will be the biggest sale day seen in Gippsland for years.
Preparations have been finalised and the town has embraced the concept wholeheartedly. Over 70 businesses, 24 community groups and 12 sponsors are participating on the morning which sets the scene for Gippsland’s premier horse race the Moe Cup which is run in the afternoon.
Chris Buckingham Convenor of the Moe Cup Day 3 Hour sale said: "…We are ecstatic about the support received for the sale from business and community. Whatever the weather does, the backing we have received for the event shows the resilience and commitment of the Moe Community…’
The key theme of the day will be ‘Moe on Track’, however organisers are quick to point out that this event would not have half the impact without the support of business and community from across the region.
‘…We have gathered support from local government, community groups and businesses that are not exclusively based in Moe. This event is about developing positive partnerships that transcend parochial boundaries. Yes it is Moe’s big day, but we do not limit our friendships to the 3825 postcode People who have attended the sale in previous years know that wherever they are from – everyone is a local on Moe Cup Day.’ observed Chris Buckingham.
The Moore Street Mall will be closed to traffic for the event with live music, clowns, face painting, street stalls and entertainment all adding to the carnival atmosphere. Radio 3GG will be doing an outside broadcast and there will be live music performed by the GippsTAFE band and Frank Garner.
Because of the expected increase in the number of cars in town on the day organisers will be putting up additional signage to make it easier for visitors to town to find a park.
