Over the course of the next 12 months a profile of each member will be published, providing an insight into the background and aspirations of the members and highlighting the milestones of the Group throughout the year.

Alan Brown is the current Chair of the Gippsland Wild Dog Management Group.

Alan’s original nomination for the Group was based on his desire to get involved in the planning side of wild dog management.

Alan is now in his second term as a member of the Gippsland Wild Dog Management Group, and along with the other Group members, has been intimately involved in the development of the Local Area Control Plan process.

"I have experienced wild dog activity on my old property at Dellicknora since the early 1990’s and more recently at my new property at East Orbost," Mr Brown said.

"There is some good research work being carried at out present. This research is supported by the Wild Dog Management Group, DPI and DSE. The research will give some insight into wild dog home ranges using satellite tracking in New South Wales and Victoria."

"I see many positives within the current wild dog program, such as the capacity for concerned community members to have input into the control program through the development of the Gippsland Wild Dog Action Plan and the annual Local Area Control Plan consultation process."

"There is also greater scope for a cooperative approach to wild dog management with the Land Stewardship Officers at a number of locations in Gippsland having a wild dog management capacity," Mr Brown said.

For further information on the wild dog program contact Vaughn Kingston, DPI Wild Dog Program Coordinator on (03) 5152 0600.
