Gippsland goes global with Alibaba
Alibaba workshops in December to explore e-commerce, tourism, food and product opportunities for Gippsland businesses.
Latrobe City Council, Regional Development Victoria, Trade Victoria and Alibaba Group are collaborating to deliver a special workshop in December exploring e-commerce, tourism, food and product opportunities for Gippsland businesses through the Alibaba e-commerce system.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said the workshop would open the door to improved trade with China for a range of local organisations.
"More than 529 million mobile users connect through Alibaba’s China retail market places per month. Australia is the fifth most popular country for products on the Tmall – a dedicated business-to-consumer Chinese website. In the year ending in January 2017, more than 1.2 million visitors from China travelled to Australia with many using the Alipay Super App to book travel arrangements and purchase products and services during their visits.
"The Gippsland workshop, to be held on Wednesday 6 December at Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon, will focus on three key areas: e-Commerce and trade; tourism; and food and products.
"We want our local producers and businesses to understand what opportunities there are for Gippsland brands and exporters and how these companies can take advantage of the booming e-commerce market to drive exports and connect with new markets. How can tourism retailers and attractions use Alipay to drive visitation from Chinese travellers?" Cr White said.
"Presenters at the event have a wealth of expertise in their particular fields and will provide a really good base of information to get you and your business started on the road to export success in such a key market.
"Our region has great products to sell but knowing how to get those products to consumers can be a difficult path to negotiate. This workshop is a simple and accessible way to learn," Cr White concluded.
The free workshop series: Introduction to the Alibaba Ecosystem runs from 10am to 3pm on Wednesday 6 December at Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon. You can book for the morning e-Commerce and Trade session 10am to 12.20pm; and then choose between Tourism or Food and Products for the afternoon session from 1pm to 3pm.
