Each received certificates recognising their contribution to Council, some at a special ceremony headed by Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin and Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden.

The ceremony is a chance to formally acknowledge individual staff members and the positive difference they have made to the organisation and the Bass Coast community.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden, acknowledged the dedication and commitment given by staff over their terms of service.

"The knowledge and experience of these staff members is an invaluable resource for both Council and the community," Mr Bawden said.

"The regard in which they are held was evident in the speeches their colleagues made at the presentation."

Cr Goodwin said staff were Council’s greatest asset.

"The work our staff do is a credit to the organisation," Cr Goodwin said.

"Our office staff handle a huge number of projects and bring passion, commitment and good humour to what can sometimes be a difficult job.

"The outdoor staff are the real face of Council and I believe the community appreciate the work they do."

A familiar face around the community is Roads Co-ordinator, Daryl Major, who is in his 25th year with Council.

"A lot has changed since I started with the Shire of Phillip Island in 1983," Mr Major said.

"I have enjoyed working for Council and the time has flown really, although I can safely say I won’t be staying for another 25 years!"

A special award was presented to Communications Co-ordinator, Eleanor McKay, for her work, passion and dedication to improving Council’s professional image. Ms McKay has been heavily involved with the implementation of the new Style Guide, which aims to give Council and its employees a clear direction on providing quality services now and into the future.

The following staff are recognised for their service:

Daryl Major – Roads Co-ordinator 25 years

Nola Fenech – Home Care 20 years
