A range of innovative local businesses will be showcasing their products and services during the event.

Chairperson of the Gippsland Innovation Festival, Paul Buckley, said, "It will be fantastic to see a range of Gippsland’s innovative businesses on display. People attending the launch will be able to talk to exhibitors about their path to making a good idea happen and see first-hand how these innovative products and services work’.

Several Gippsland event organisers attended the Victorian Launch of the Australian Innovation Festival at Federation Square, on April 26th. Over 500 events are included in the national program, of which over 50 will be held in Gippsland.

Paul Buckley continued, ‘Gippsland is really on the innovation map, with another great festival on the way this year. It’s really positive to see business, community and government working together to promote innovation occurring in our region. Gippsland really is ‘Lifting the Lid on Innovation’’.

The launch will be followed in the Esso BHP Billiton Wellington Entertainment Centre theatre by ‘Innovations in Access and Inclusion - having a voice and being heard’ which will present a range of innovative approaches to addressing access issues faced by people with disabilities.

Also on May 3 is the opening of the Faith and Fabric Art Exhibition at the Traralgon Uniting Church Hall. Senator Lyn Allison will be launching the event and the Faith and Fabric Group’s new book.

Contributing to good ideas in Gippsland is a mix of new and established events being held right across the region from May 1-19. The ‘Rodney Forbes 1995 – 2005’ Exhibition will get a head start on the festival, opening on 28th April and continuing until the 7th May at the Latrobe Regional Gallery.

Other events in the festival’s first week include the Monash University School of Business and Economics awards night, with awards sponsored by a range of Gippsland and metro-based companies, an open evening at the Bairnsdale Early Learning Centre and LMA Watts Fandrich and the GACC’s ‘Thinking Innovatively’ facilitation workshop.
