Regional Arts Vic holds a conference each year in a major Victorian centre that has a focus on profiling and developing regional arts practice, participation and delivery.

The decision to hold this year’s event in Lakes Entrance follows a submission to Regional Arts Victoria by the Shire and an Expression of Interest submitted last year to hold the National Conference

Shire Events Development Officer Andrea Court said the East Gippsland Arts Councils were successful getting the State conference.

"It will attract about 150 people to Lakes Entrance and many of those who will attend are Festivals organizers, local art groups; performing arts centre managers, regional arts and cultural workers and artists from around Victoria," she said.

"The conference program is currently being developed with Regional Arts Victoria officers and it will present a great opportunity for East Gippsland artists to showcase their work during the event.

"Local artists are planning to hold an innovative arts trail based nature walk that was inaugurated at the Mallacoota Festival.

"It will have region-wide input and be something that the local community can also come along and take part in."

The Nowa Nowa Community Development Group, Mallacoota Arts Council, East Gippsland Aboriginal Arts Corporation, Bruthen Events & Arts Council, Arts Network East Gippsland, the Orbost Exhibition Centre and East Gippsland TAFE arts students are supporting the conference.
