Community and Economic Development Director, Steven Piasente, said the artists have been invited to exhibit as part of the Bass Coast Acquisitive Art Prize program. "The new Bass Coast Acquisitive Art exhibition is a program introduced this year to provide artists with an added opportunity to showcase their works.

"Participants who have been invited to exhibit, are the winners of local art shows from across Bass Coast region," explained Mr Piasente.

"Each artist will display four of their works and a panel of guest judges will select one art piece to become part of Council’s art collection. "The winning artist will receive $5000 and the other artists will receive $1000," he said.

"This new format brings additional benefits to the artists, including this exhibition opportunity, increased prize money, and will boost support for our local art shows."

Mr Piasente said there were many talented artists producing excellent work in the Bass Coast region, and he congratulated all of the artists who made it to the final Acquisitive Art Prize Exhibition.

Participating artists are:
• Matthew Petrucci (San Remo Art and Photographic Show)
• Ramon Horsfield (Corinella and District Traditional Art Show)
• Peter Walker (Artist's Society of Phillip Island, Cup Weekend Exhibition)
• Cynthia Phelan (Inverloch Art Show)
• Diana Wilson (Bass Coast Artist's Society, Easter Exhibition)

The Exhibition will be judged by a panel of art experts: Rodney Forbes, Senior Lecturer and Director of Gippsland Centre of Art and Design, Director of Switchback Gallery and artist; Penny Teale, Senior Curator and Collections Manager at McClelland Gallery in Langwarrin: and Warwick Reeder, Director of Reeder Fine Art, formerly a Director of Heide Gallery and involved in the art museum sector for over 33 years.

Support our local arts community and visit the Bass Coast Acquisitive Art Exhibition 2011 at the Inverloch Community Hub. The Exhibition runs from 3 - 29 September and is open Monday to Friday from 11.00am - 5.00pm.
