Black Spot Intersections Funding Confirmed: Ingram

The Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has welcomed confirmation of funding to upgrade the intersection of Howitt Avenue and Bullumwaal Road at Wy Yung.

Mr Ingram said today that he and local residents had been campaigning for some years to have the dangerous intersection upgraded.

"The intersection leads into the popular Eastwood estate and causes significant problems for traffic, especially during peak periods," Mr Ingram said.

"The scope of the works will involve left and right turning lanes from Eastwood estate onto Bullumwaal Road and the installation of splitter islands.

"A pedestrian crossing will also be installed to provide safe access for those crossing the intersection and will be welcomed by all residents, particularly school children and the elderly.

"These works will be conducted at a cost of just over $150,000 and will be funded through the Federal Government’s Black Spots Program."

Mr Ingram said $499,000 has also been committed in the latest round of funding to construct roundabouts at the McKean Street intersections with Victoria Street and Drevermann Street in Bairnsdale.

Other projects in Mr Ingram’s electorate that will receive funding in the latest allocation include:

· $90,000 to install guideposts and intersection warning signs and improve skid resistance on Swifts Creek East Road from McMillans Street to south of Negoura Road at Swifts Creek;

· $266,000 to remove the crest on Weir Road, install intersection chevrons and seal shoulders at Angle Channel Road and Weir Road in Heyfield; and

· $180,000 to install guideposts, advanced warning signs, pavement markers and guard fence on a 2.1km section of Tambo Upper Road at Tambo Upper.
