By news@gippsland - 22nd August 2016 - Back to News Latrobe City Council is calling for the community to nominate citizens, events and services for its 2017 Australia Day Awards. Nominations across all categories close on Friday 9 September.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said that the awards were a way to recognise the spirit of community in our municipality.
"Australia Day awards are our way of saying thanks to those special people in Latrobe City who volunteer their time, who put others first and who work tirelessly for the community. We all know someone who fits into this category, but nominating them is the only way to ensure that they get the recognition they deserve.
"As well as the award for the Citizen of the Year, we also have a category to recognise our younger community members - the Young Citizen of the Year as well as categories that reward the Community Event of the Year and the Community Service of the Year," Cr Rossiter said.
"It’s important that we recognise not only individuals but also teams of people who work hard to produce events or support others in our community.
"Applications close on 9 September this year, so there’s still time to think about the people or organisations you know who might merit an award nomination.
"You can access the forms online at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/australiaday or at our service centres and libraries. Awards will be presented during a gala event at Kernot Hall, Morwell on Thursday 26 January 2017," Cr Rossiter concluded.
