Latrobe team wins State Management Challenge

A team from Latrobe City Council has been crowned the Victorian champions of the Local Government Management Association’s (LGMA) annual Management Challenge.

By City of Latrobe - 15th April 2005 - Back to News

The Management Challenge pits teams of six staff from local councils across the state against each other in a full day challenge comprising of up to twelve different management tasks. Teams are assessed on their ability to complete the tasks while at the same time dealing with a number of unforeseen events.

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, explained that the teams must tackle the tasks as if they are the management team of their Council.

"A team that wins the Management Challenge has to be highly innovative, while fully understanding the complexities of local government administration and good governance," Mr Buckley said.

"Winning the Management Challenge is a great honour for Latrobe City and demonstrates that members of the Latrobe team are equipping themselves with the skills and knowledge to take on the key administrative leadership roles in the future.

"The LGMA Challenge is a huge event with 28 teams from across the State competing, and we are extremely proud that our team has led the state to win such a prestigious award.

"Latrobe’s winning team comprised staff from across the organisation with a range of different skills and competencies. This was one of the reasons that the team was so successful. They had the right mix of skills and more importantly they really gelled together and worked hard as a team which is what the Challenge is all about," Mr Buckley said.

"Full credit has to go to the team. They did a fantastic job and the whole organisation is certainly proud of them. They have definitely put Latrobe on the map and will now represent Victoria at the National Challenge to be held in Canberra in May as part of the LGMA’s National Conference," Mr Buckley said.

"Latrobe’s team is extremely excited about the opportunity to take on the top local government teams from across Australia and New Zealand, and will definitely be giving the national final their best shot," Mr Buckley added.
