Work starts on new Traralgon library – but it’s business as usual at Service Centre

A large section of the civic offices in Traralgon has been gutted in preparation for the development of the new Traralgon Library.

By Latrobe City Council - 19th August 2005 - Back to News

Workmen moved into the building this week, securing the works area to ensure ratepayers could continue to do their business at the service centre, while maintaining a safe working environment for refurbishment.

"The former office area is now an absolutely unsightly mess, but it’s wonderful to see, because it means work on the new library has now commenced," Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley said.

"Once the former office space has been cleared of the old internal walls, the shell will remain, and that will then be refurbished into a new library four times the size of the present facility."

Mr Buckley stressed that the Traralgon Service Centre will remain open for business during the entire development of the new library.

"It’s business as usual for our customers at the Service Centre. They can pay their rates, register their pets or undertake any of the transactions with Council that they normally undertake during our normal office hours.

"Traralgon ratepayers will not in any way be inconvenienced in their day-to-day dealings with Council during the refurbishment work. However, in a few months time they will have a state-of-the-art library that they will be extremely proud of," Mr Buckley added.
