Get active try out the Tour course this SundayCyclists of all ages and abilities will be able to test their fitness and prowess in Traralgon this Sunday, on the grand finale course to be used by riders in the 53rd Malaysia Airlines Herald Sun Tour of Provincial Victoria. By Latrobe Shire Council - 20th October 2004 - Back to News The Active for Life Free Family Bike Ride will be held in Kay Street on the final day of the 1110km Tour.
From 10am until 11am cyclists are invited to cruise as many laps as they wish of the 2.85km Kay Street circuit, which climbs from Church Street to Finlayson Crescent and back. Its the same course that riders will compete on during the 13th stage of the Herald Sun Tour later in the day.
Bikes will be available to those who do not have them. Registrations for the Active for Life Free Family Bike Ride are through Gippsport, telephone 5136 8335, or intending riders can register on the day.
The Family Bike Ride will be followed by the Latrobe City Cycling Club Open Handicap, with the Herald Sun Tour Race starting at 2pm.
Latrobe Citys Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said the undulating circuit will provide a testing finale for the 85 Herald Sun Tour riders who will race 20 laps, which is a total of 57kms.
"Latrobe City is putting out the challenge to all residents and visitors in the municipality to be part of this international event. The world will be watching the exciting Stage Finish of the Herald Sun Tour in Traralgon, and local support is vital to make this event the best ever," Mr Buckley said.
"I encourage everyone to come along to the festivities and support the Latrobe City Team led by Luke Roberts," Mr Buckley added.
Events Latrobe Manager, Janiene Ayre, said that the 2004 Herald Sun Tour is more than a race. "Speed, strength and stamina play key roles," Ms Ayre said.
"Team tactics will also dictate who wears the yellow leader's jersey when Australia's most famous endurance cycling event finishes," Ms Ayre concluded.
