Community Celebrates Bridge Opening

The community will celebrate the opening of the Historic Swing Bridge at Longford this weekend.

The opening signifies the end of restoration works on the bridge and the handover of the bridge from VicRoads to Wellington Shire Council.

There will be a procession over the bridge and once the bridge is open there will also be a procession on the water.


Food and music will be available on the day for the community to enjoy.

Car Parking is available Canal Reserve, South Gippsland Highway Sale with free shuttle buses taking people to and from the bridge from 10am onwards.

The Swing Bridge is listed on the Register of the National Estate and the Historic Building Register and is believed to be the only remaining working bridge in Australia.
