Mic Conway and the Old Spice Boys end seasonAria winning performer, Mic Conway, will perform with the Old Spice Boys in the fourth and final show of the 2004 Café Concert Series at the Latrobe Regional Performing Arts Centre on Sunday 7 November. By Latrobe Shire Council - 21st October 2004 - Back to News Latrobe City’s Performing Arts and Venues Co-ordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that Mic Conway is a talented performer known by audiences of a variety of ages and backgrounds.
"Mic Conway has worked extensively in music, theatre, film and television, and he is most famous for his work in the ‘Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band’, the ‘Conway Brothers’, ‘Mic Conway’s National Junk Band’ and ‘Circus Oz’. He was featured on the recent Australian music documentary ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top’ and he was a presenter and composer for the ABC documentary ‘Vaudeville’. Other people might recognise Mic as one of the composers for the ABC series ‘Bad Cop, Bad Cop’, and the younger generation will know him as Magic Mic on ‘Humphrey B Bear’," Ms Roberts said.
"Mic has also recorded a variety of CDs and albums, two of which have gone gold, and he recently performed a one man show, called ‘Entertaining Australia’, during which he combined music with magic, juggling, fire eating and dancing. Mic is a true performer who appeals to people of any generation," Ms Roberts said.
"The Old Spice Boys blend razor sharp musicianship with accessible tunes and a dry sense of humour, resulting in an entertaining performance based on a timeless blend of swing, jazz, blues, reggae, vaudeville and R&B.
"The Old Spice Boys consists of renowned ukulele virtuoso Azo Bell, known as a member of ‘Freeboppers’ and ‘Bellydance’; tea chest bassist Billy Milroy, known as a member of ‘Granny Magnet’ and ‘Sundowners’; and snare drummer Tim Reeves, known for his time as a British pop star in the successful bands ‘Mungo Jerry’ and ‘T-Rex’. They are three talented musicians who perform inventive interpretations of songs by Louis Jordan, Miles Davis, Elvis Presley, Ian Dury, Bill Haley, Prince and the Seekers, and also spice up their performances with their own wildly original songs, such as ‘I’m not an alcoholic (I just enjoy a drink)’ and ‘Who gave you a licence to drive me crazy?’," Ms Roberts added.
Mic Conway and The Old Spice Boys will perform at the Latrobe Regional Performing Arts Centre on Sunday 7 November at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Latrobe City Box Office, telephone 5176 3559.
