A Plan For The Early YearsChildren’s experiences in their early years have an enormous impact on their growth and development. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 24th November 2009 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council understands the importance of this and is developing a Municipal Early Years Plan, to focus on this important area.
Council’s Community Services Manager, Liz Wright, said Council would hold community workshops in December and February as the first step in developing the Plan.
"The plan will set the direction for the development and coordination of education, care and health services and activities for children aged 0-8 years and their families for the next five years," explained Ms Wright.
"Council recognises that each community has different children’s service and infrastructure needs. We will hold five community workshops throughout the Shire to allow opportunities for communities to identify issues and generate ideas for action.
"The final plan will address coordination issues and include strategies for individual communities."
The Early Years Plan will outline Council’s role in service and infrastructure provision, planning, advocacy and community development. It will enable Council to work in partnership with the community to improve outcomes for young children.
The first two community workshops will be in Inverloch and Coronet Bay in December. The San Remo, Wonthaggi and Cowes workshops will be in February 2010.
The workshops will be practical and informative. Children are welcome and light refreshments will be available.
"We are looking forward to working with families and services to develop an Early Years Plan that responds to the needs of children and families living in Bass Coast," said Ms Wright.
"If you are interested in planning for your children please join us at a community workshop near you."
