Innovation Gippsland 2007 Takes Off

Innovation Gippsland showcases innovation from our region on a national stage this month, with over 35 events celebrating innovation in all walks of life.

The largest celebration of innovation in regional Australia runs from Monday 23rd April – Wednesday 30th May.

Mr Glenn Patterson, Chair of Innovation Gippsland and CEO of Baw Baw Shire said: ‘Gippsland has been recognized for a number of years as the biggest regional contributor to the Australian Innovation Festival. It is particularly pleasing to see the range and depth of events in this year’s program.’

Mr Patterson continued, ‘Innovation is the key to our region’s future success. The businesses featured in this year’s launch showcase and the depth of this year’s program show how much our region has achieved.’

Innovation Gippsland 2007 events are focused on business, tourism, environment, arts, education and community themes.

‘One of the unique features of Innovation Gippsland is the way it brings together business, community and government in partnership to identify and celebrate some great local ideas being turned into reality.’ added Mr Patterson

Events this week include

· Prom Coast Seachange Festival, Locations throughout South Gippsland, 21st – 22nd & 28th – 29th April;

· Launch of Public Access to Bemm River School Bus – ‘Let’s Get Connected’ Project, Bemm River; 23rd April;

· East Gippsland Economic Development Summit, Bairnsdale; 26th April

· Australasian Cave & Karst Management (ACKMA) Conference, Buchan Caves; 29th April - 5th May

Innovation Gippsland is supported by the Gippsland Local Government Network, Regional Development Victoria and Make it Happen in Regional Victoria, nab, AusIndustry, Monash University, WinTV, Telstra Country Wide, Anchor Web Design, Destination Gippsland and ABC Gippsland.

Mr Patterson said: ‘The Gippsland Local Government Network is delighted to be working in partnership with a range of corporate sponsors from across the region. Their support is critical to the success of the program.’
