Into The Impact Of Public Land Management Practices On Bushfires In Victoria.

The public exhibition period of a planning application by Latrobe City Council for a new landfill site located off Callignee South Road has been increased by an additional fourteen days to Friday 27 April 2007.

By Latrobe City Council - 16th April 2007 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said an extension is being made to the previously advertised exhibition period in order to provide further opportunity for input and feedback from the local and broader community.

"Any written submissions received from the public or referral authorities during the exhibition will be considered as part of the assessment of the planning application," Mr Buckley explained.

Mr Buckley pointed out that the proposal is being independently assessed and the assessment will be based on the merits of the proposal in accordance with the Latrobe Planning Scheme.

The planning scheme can be viewed at the Department of Sustainability and Environment website at www.dse.vic.gov.au/planningschemes/latrobe.

"Submissions and objections will have the most effective impact on the assessment of the application if they are based on valid planning grounds," Mr Buckley said.

"These submissions should articulate why the proposal doesn’t meet the planning scheme requirements in the view of the objector. The public exhibition period is an important part of the planning process as it may result in additional requirements being applied to any development approval and/or refusal of the application."

Mr Buckley said that development of a new landfill for Latrobe will require a planning permit to proceed. "It will also require an EPA Works Approval. If one is granted prior to the other, it will be conditional on the other being granted," Mr Buckley explained.

The planning application can be viewed at Latrobe City’s service centres at 141 Commercial Road, Morwell; 44 Albert St, Moe; or 34-38 Kay Street, Traralgon. This can be done during office hours and is free of charge.

Alternatively the application can be downloaded from the Latrobe City website at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au\landfill.
