Springfest Sept 20 & 21StWeekend of Celebration East Gippsland Rail Trail and Our Train Returning Soon By Margaret Pearson - 20th August 2003 - Back to News
EAST GIPPSLAND SPRINGFEST
SEPTEMBER 20 & 21ST
Ride, Drive, Walk, Bike is the theme of the upcoming Springfest celebrations. Participation is the message to young and old. All East Gippslanders and their friends from afar are invited. Come ride on the free buses, drive your car, walk or ride your bike, trike or horse on the East Gippsland Rail Trail. Join in old fashioned games, watch old skills demonstrated or old flicks. Test your pie eating ability in Bruthen, or enter your baby into the quest at Nowa Nowa. Or would you prefer to plant a tree in Bairnsdale before Devonshire tea at Nicholson?
These are but a few of features of the East Gippsland SPRINGFEST, a weekend of activities planned to celebrate the eminent return of our train service, and to showcase connecting businesses and communities along the East Gippsland Rail Trial.. The weekend is the prize awarded to the Bruthen Bush Village project team, the winners of Department of Infrastructure competition to celebrate the return of the Loco’s to Bairnsdale.
Community buses, with bike trailer, will be ‘stopping all stations’. Those wanting to ride for just one section of the trail can join the bus at any stop. Bus services will also operate from Buchan and Omeo
A wide range of accommodation is available at the towns along the trail including camping and overnight yarding for horses. For accommodation information and bookings call Bairnsdale Tourist Information Centre on 5152 3444.
The Bruthen Bush Village Committee is busy organising a wide range of activities from interested community groups and businesses. Its not too late if your business or community group would like to take this opportunity to put on a display, conduct an event or participate in the PASSPORT Competition. East Gippsland businesses, especially those in Bairnsdale or located near the Rail Trail, who would like to participate in the PASSPORT promotion should phone or email contacts below. A fee of $25 and a donation to the prizes e.g. vouchers will provide a great promotional opportunity for your business. Springfest participants will obtain stamps from participating businesses, bringing extra customers through your door and hopefully back again next time they visit.
The Bruthen Bush Village committee is holding combined meeting/working bees every Sunday till Springfest weekend, 1pm to 4pm at The Bruthen Station, Station Street, Bruthen, the future site of the Bruthen Bush Village. Helpers are welcome to come along and join in with cleaning up the site, sharing in some Billy tea and their ideas over a campfire.
