The long awaited draw was shy of three weeks starting, costing Storm a full line up. The mixture of experience and new recruits was simply not enough for Storm to contend with the strong Steelers.

Storm played their best football considering they were undermanned displaying commitment and courage. In what was a bruising encounter with Storm making a number of big hits in defence, the Storm failed to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities.

Steelers capitalized every scoring opportunity out wide unable to break down the defence in the centre of the field conceding the only try of the day for Storm by fullback Craig Legg converted by Whitney Hiriaki. A positive for Storm was the signing of new recruit Jason Cooke proving a significant contributor.

Gippsland Storm travels to Frankston this weekend to play Southern Sharks for a 3PM kick off. Having sustained injuries, Storm would need to reassess their game plan if they have any hope of gaining two points on the ladder.
