Gippsland Bushfire Emergency
There are many fire emergencies impacting eastern Victoria and threatening Gippsland communities.
The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath said these fire emergencies are very much an unfolding situation.
"My heart goes out to everyone across Gippsland impacted by the many fires. I am in awe of the many brave and hardworking emergency services personnel battling these fires on the ground and from the sky."
This morning Ms Bath attended a briefing at VicEmergency's Regional Command Centre for an overview from on the Gippsland fires before visiting Latrobe City Council Emergency Relief Centre at Kernot Hall, Morwell and then attended the Drouin community meeting for the Bunyip Complex Fire.
"It continues to amaze me how regional people pull together during adverse times and provide incredible support to one another.
"Sincere thanks and acknowledgement must be given to our many hard working volunteers, emergency services personnel, council staff and local Councillors for their response in providing exceptional support services to our local communities.
Ms Bath said the Gippsland fires will continued to be monitored closely with firefighting efforts focusing on the protection of life and property.
"I am incredibly concerned for the safety of our local communities and I am urging Gippslanders to stay informed, follow emergency advice, stay safe and continue to support each other during such a challenging time."
Local Emergency Relief Centres for residents affected by the fires are located at:
- Wellington Shire – Sale Baptise Church
- Latrobe City – Kernot Hall, Morwell
- Baw Baw Shire – Bellbird Park, Drouin
- Cardinia Shire - Pakenham Hall, crn John & Henry St.
