Orbost Newmerella and Marlo urged to conserve water by East Gippsland Water
East Gippsland Water asks customers to conserve water while upgrading Orbost Water Treatment Plant's storage holding treated water, due to a smaller backup supply.
East Gippsland Water are urging customers in Orbost, Newmerella and Marlo to help conserve water through to the end of May, while necessary upgrade work is carried out to the Orbost Water Treatment Plant. The focus of the upgrade work is on the plant's 53-million-litre covered storage holding treated drinking water, and includes repairing a walking structure under the cover.

Water saving rules
East Gippsland Water's Executive Manager Customers, Community and Communications, David Radford, said, "We are relying on a smaller back-up storage of treated drinking water to supply the local community while the works are being carried out, which is why we are requesting that customers conserve their use of water wherever possible please."
"As a bare minimum, customers should ensure that they comply with the Victorian government's common-sense Permanent Water Saving Rules that apply statewide. This means not using a sprinkler system to water the garden, unless it's between 6pm and 10am. It also means not washing down hard surfaces such as driveways, paths or decking, unless absolutely necessary. Any additional water saving measures implemented would be much appreciated." Mr Radford said.
