Short closure of Morwell pool for upgradeThe Morwell Leisure Centre pool area will close for around two weeks, from Saturday 9 April 2005 for a general refurbishment. By City of Latrobe - 8th April 2005 - Back to News Latrobe City Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said that the upgrade was part of a long term cyclical maintenance program designed to increase the longevity of the aquatic area.
"The Morwell Leisure Centre is now eleven years old and to ensure that patrons continue to have access to a top quality sporting and aquatic centre, we need to implement our general repair and refurbishment plan.
"The aquatic area will close so that improvements can be made to the main pool deck, such as the replacement of broken or missing tiles; contractors will also be looking at the refurbishment of plant and a general maintenance review of the area will be undertaken," Mr Buckley explained.
"Although the toddler pool had recently reopened after its own retiling had been completed, it will be necessary to close this area too. With the many contractors, equipment and machinery on site during the maintenance work it would be too dangerous to allow the toddler pool to remain in use.
"We hope to reopen the aquatic area at the end of April, once the refurbishment is completed. In the meantime, residents who wish to swim can use the pools at Churchill Leisure Centre or Moe Newborough Sports Centre," Mr Buckley advised.
Mr Buckley said that arrangements had been made with the leisure centres in Churchill and Moe to accommodate Morwell Leisure Centre members who hold aquatic membership.
"Patrons who hold the aquatic membership at Morwell, can use the facilities at Churchill or Moe free of charge. Special arrangements have also been put into place for those seniors who take part in the aqua movers program and who cannot travel to the other centres, to be offered an additional land class," Mr Buckley said.
"Regrettably, the closure of the pool area will cause some inconvenience, however we would like to remind residents and members that the other areas of the Morwell Leisure Centre will remain open for business as usual. The gymnasium, stadium and land classes will all operate as normal and the school holiday program for the week of 11 April will focus on dry activities including craft, golf, cooking, stadium games and bowling," Mr Buckley added.
"Every effort will be made to ensure the aquatic area is reopened on schedule," Mr Buckley concluded.
