Council Will Support ‘Games Fish’ Requests

Wellington Shire Council will back any community group that wishes to apply for one of the Commonwealth Games ‘fish’.

By Wellington Shire Council - 30th March 2006 - Back to News

The 72 giant fish sculptures were floating on the Yarra River for the duration of the Commonwealth Games. It is believed these fish will be offered to Councils and other groups, although no decision as to how this distribution process will operate has been announced.

"Council will forward an application on behalf of any community group that wishes to install and maintain one of these sculptures," said Cr Malcolm Hole, Mayor of Wellington Shire Council.

"Several community groups have expressed interest in the sculptures.

"Potentially the sculptures could look terrific in suitable locations within the Shire.

"However we believe the sculptures have not been designed to be long lasting, so any group wishing to acquire one will need to consider what work may be involved in maintaining them for the long term," said Cr Hole.
