Maher’S Landing Boat Ramp Upgrade Boat Ramp Boat users in the Inverloch area will enjoy improved facilities when the Maher’s Landing boat ramp is upgraded. By Bass Coast - 6th May 2011 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Environment Manager, Paul Smith, said an increase in the number of boats using the boat ramps at Maher’s Landing and Inverloch prompted the decision to investigate improvements.
"Council has been looking into whether the current boat ramp is still adequate, given the steady increase in use," explained Mr Smith.
"This has been funded by the Department of Transport through the Boating Safety and Facilities Program.
"An upgraded ramp will be safer and easier to use.
"It will provide safe and efficient boating access for small vessels including fishing boats and jet skis.
"We will also complete a study of native vegetation to minimise any impact the upgrade might have on seagrass in the area," said Mr Smith.
As the manager of the boat ramp, Council has identified three options for the redevelopment and is calling on the community for input on these.
"It is very important that we hear from the community and ramp users, to find out which option best suits their needs," explained Mr Smith.
The three design options identified offer improved grades, two lanes and access to the main channel; however the grade and methodology used to reach the main channel varies.
Details of the options are available at Council’s Customer Service Centres in Inverloch and Wonthaggi. They can also be downloaded from the website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au under Services>Environmental Management>Maher’s Landing Boating Action Plan.
Feedback must be received in writing by Friday, 10 June 2011.
