Community Grants Now Open

The 2013/14 Community Grants Program opens on Monday 1 July 2013 for community groups across Latrobe City.

By Latrobe City - 18th June 2013 - Back to News

Grants are available to not for profit Latrobe City groups and organisations for projects undertaken in the 2013/14 financial year. The Community Grants Program Guidelines & Information booklet is available on Council’s website which details the criteria and eligibility for a successful grant application.

Latrobe City deputy mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson, said the grants provided great opportunities for numerous groups in the community to benefit.

"These grants encourage community groups to enhance their facilities or the services they provide to the community. Whether it’s a sporting group looking to expand premises or upgrade equipment; a group wishing to develop a service program or a wanting to share an event with the community, the community grants program can help them achieve their dreams.

"Whilst the grants program offers financial assistance to community groups they are required to contribute to these projects by way of providing some of their own funding, as well as contributions made ‘in kind’, such as providing labour.

"There are many fine examples of community groups working hard to create infrastructure improvements, organising events, both major and minor, as well as providing valuable community development programs within our municipality," Cr Gibson said.

The total grant pool is $435,000 with $360,000 allocated to Minor Capital Works grants, $30,000 to Community Development grants, $25,000 for Event grants and $20,000 to Community Venue Hire grants.

Cr Gibson added that an extensive campaign to promote the program is currently being carried out so that as many groups as possible can take advantage of these funding opportunities.

"If you belong to a community group or organisation within Latrobe City, and you have a project that needs funding, then this program may be a way for you to receive help and make a start on that project," Cr Gibson concluded.

To apply, visit Latrobe City Council’s website on www.latrobe.vic.gov.au and complete and submit your application.

An information session will be held on Wednesday 26 June 2013 at Council headquarters in Morwell, from 5.30 pm, for those groups that are unsure of how to use an online application system. Assistance will also be available to groups that do not have access to the internet, however, hard copy application forms will not be accepted.

The deadline for receiving applications is 5pm on Friday 16 August 2013 (except for Venue Hire grants that remain open until such time the funds are depleted)

For further information relating to community grants, please contact Latrobe City Council’s Community Grants Officer on 5128 5664.
