Clubs Plan For Our Recreation Future

Bass Coast Shire Council is holding a series of community workshops in October on Council’s long term Recreation Plan.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 24th October 2008 - Back to News

A number of local netball clubs have already met with Bass Coast Shire Council and Netball Victoria to discuss facility funding for the future.

The Inverloch and Wonthaggi Netball Clubs and the Wonthaggi Netball Association have been praised for their pro-active approach in addressing what they identified as important issues. Other local recreation clubs are being encouraged to do the same.

Council’s Community and Economic Development Director, Patti Wenn, said the community workshops were being held to allow local clubs and residents to have an input into the Recreation Plan.

"We encourage local clubs and residents to attend the workshops and help shape a plan that meets the community’s recreational needs in the years to come," Ms Wenn said.

"This is a great opportunity for residents and recreation clubs to improve local sporting facilities and resources."

As well as a Recreation Plan for Bass Coast, Council is also preparing Master Plans for Bass, Cowes and Wonthaggi Recreation Reserves.

These plans will provide Council with a long term vision for recreation in the municipality and will include action plans on how this can be achieved.

Local recreation clubs recently completed a survey as part of the research into the Recreation Plan. The survey results form the basis of the community workshops, which start at 6pm and will be held on:

  • 28 October at the Cowes Cultural Centre
  • 29 October at the Wonthaggi Town Hall. This workshop will also feature a section on the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve Master Plan.
  • 30 October at the Bass Community Hall

The workshops will be facilitated by experienced Recreation Consultants, @leisure.

If you would like to attend a workshop you must register by contacting Chris Wutzke at Council on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or email c.wutzke@basscoast.vic.gov.au by Thursday 24 October.
