Crime Smart:
CrimeSmart Tips Outside The House.
Burglary is an opportunistic crime and burglars look for signals — how a house is maintained, what is left lying around the garden, and visible entry points, can all influence a burglars choice to break into one house rather than another.
Homes that have been burgled once are almost four time more likely to be burgled again, so look at your home through a burglar’s eyes. If you can see ways of breaking into the house, chances are a burglar can see these too. So change them, follow these tips and be CrimeSmart.
· Install deadlocks on doors and security screens and key locks on windows.
· Don’t hide a spare key on your property.
· Have a low fence and trim shrubs to eliminate hiding spots for burglars should they try to break into your home.
· Don’t leave tools, equipment or ladders lying around, that can be used for a forced entry.
· When you leave your home even if it is only for a few minutes always lock the doors and windows. Criminals are only too ready to take advantage of an unlocked door or open window, to gain entry to your home.
PartySafe:
Recently in Traralgon a teenage party was "gate-crashed" by a large number of un-invited guests. Those that could not enter the house partied in the street outside. Concerned neighbours called the Police. The Police closed the party down and cleared the street of a large number of inebriated teenagers.
This party lacked adult supervision (the parents of the teenager holding the party were not home at the time). The party had not been registered with the police under the PartySafe program.
The PartySafe program has been implemented by the Victoria Police, and provides information to help minimise the risk of intoxicated guests or gatecrashers ruining your party. Registration forms are available from your local police station. Registering your party provides the police with the information they need should they be required to attend your party.
Since its inception in 2001 over 5000 parties across the state have been registered with the Victoria Police.
