Enjoy It, Don’t Spoil It!Visiting school leavers have had access to support services to help make decisions about staying safe while celebrating the end of their secondary schooling. By Bass Coast - 6th December 2010 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Safety Manager, Philippa O’Halloran, said it was important that end of year celebrations do not adversely affect the local community.
"Police and Community Safety staff have been pre-emptively visiting properties to ensure young people are aware of their responsibilities," said Mrs O’Halloran.
"We’re reminding school leavers to ‘Enjoy it, don’t spoil it.’ They are welcome to come here and enjoy our beaches and weather, but we take any type of anti-social behaviour very seriously.
"Anyone who comes down and behaves inappropriately faces the prospect of a fine or Police action.
"We are aware of some incidents that Police have dealt with and we’re pleased to see the impact of increased Police numbers in the area," continued Mrs O’Halloran.
Other measures being implemented from the Community Safety Plan include regular patrols of the beach and estates.
The state government provides funding for this program to Surf Coast, Mornington Peninsula and Bass Coast Shire Councils to minimise harm to the students.
"Our program is a joint initiative involving the YMCA, Bass Coast Youth Services, Chisholm TAFE, Red Frogs and Council," said Mrs O’Halloran.
"We’re very grateful to all our volunteers, including the local Lions Club.
"Without these agencies, we simply would not be able to provide a program," continued Mrs O’Halloran.
Residents are reminded to call 000 to report noise or other concerns. If there is a property that is causing repeated problems then residents should contact Council’s Community Safety team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
