‘A Fair Go For Gippsland’

"I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of rugged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror; This wide brown land for me!"

By Clint Eastwood - 9th October 2006 - Back to News

This is one of my favourite pieces of Australian poetry or song. It shows that we are only a tiny insignificant speck in a land of extreme danger and harshness, yet it can be beautiful and inspiring. That is why we love it.

It also sums up the boldness, diversity and magic that is East Gippsland. We’ve seen adversity, but remain strong.

"And this is my home, your home, our home ~ East Gippsland; It is what I am so incredibly passionate about".

"I wish for the great people of Gippsland East to have happy, healthy and hope-filled lives. I wish for all of us, to be able to benefit and enjoy, what life brings us in our great region, whether young or old, black or white".

"There are so many vitally important local issues, which are simply being ignored during this election.

What has happened to the focus on our services, our infrastructure, our economy, our people,

and of course, our future?" asks Clint.

"Why has our local member, and to a large degree, the other candidates, not looked at the big picture? Our health system is strained and needs attention, our schools are wanting support, our roads and transport are falling apart, our farmers are shaking their heads in despair, and our towns are all screaming out for help".

"Sadly while taxes and charges, interference and red tape, continue to send our communities to oblivion, where is our representative? Why are we continuing to put up with this disgraceful, destructive situation?"

"Seven years is a bloody long time to be in government, and what have we really got to show for it?"

"We don’t really give a damn of who is in power, we just want positive, proactive and progressive actions.

As Australians, as Victorians and as Gippslanders, we all want, deserve and quite rightly demand a fair go!"

"So when Election Day finally comes around, the voters of the Gippsland East electorate will have seven choices; But the biggest choice that they will make, is whether they want ‘a vote for change’ and a vote for ‘a fair go for Gippsland".

"Do we want to continue with inaction, indifference and inequality, or usher in ‘a fairer future for us all?"
