Council - phone company has no local endorsementLatrobe City Council has issued a statement declaring it is not involved in any shareholding, sponsorship agreement or business arrangement with telecommunications provider, ‘Southern Phone Company’. By Latrobe City Council - 17th December 2003 - Back to News The statement follows calls from Latrobe citizens seeking clarification over claims that councils are the shareholders in Southern Phone Company.
Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, said that the Southern Phone Company is a public company whose headquarters and principal place of business is at Moruya on the NSW south coast.
"Southern Phone Company shareholders do comprise a number of local councils from the south-eastern region of NSW," Mr Hancock said.
"However, we understand from citizens who have contacted us that some prospective customers may conclude that Latrobe City is also a shareholder.
"I wish to make it perfectly clear that Latrobe City Council has no shareholding in the Southern Phone Company, nor any sponsorship or endorsement arrangement with the Southern Phone Company. To our knowledge, there are no arrangements between the Southern Phone Company and any of the Gippsland Councils," Mr Hancock said.
