Out Of Service Day For Raymond Island Ferry

East Gippsland Shire has scheduled a maintenance day for the Raymond Island ferry on Monday, 12 September from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Manager Assets Gordon Charles said that the existing chains appear to have reached the end of their usable life.

"We have decided to replace both drive chains because, although visual inspections have suggested they are OK, it is now obvious that they have fatigued and are likely to cause further difficulties.

"We felt it would be prudent to replace them to ensure ongoing service reliability."

Mr Charles said that the out of service day had been selected to avoid interfering with the imminent school holidays and the busy end of week shopping days.

"I can assure the community that we are doing our level best to minimise inconvenience to the Raymond Island residents," Mr Charles said.

"However, we are dealing with a complex piece of machinery that must operate in what are often demanding conditions."
