Traralgon Creek Bridge Designs Out For Public Comment

Latrobe City Council is inviting public comment on designs for a replacement bridge that will cater for a shared path over the Traralgon Creek between the Agnes Brereton and Harold Preston Reserves.

By Latrobe City Council - 5th May 2009 - Back to News

The bridge replaces a suspension pedestrian bridge which was closed for safety reasons late last year and was subsequently dismantled and removed from the site.

Latrobe City councillor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan, said three concept designs and options on two of the designs will be offered for public comment. All designs will have a concrete deck and will be suitable for people of all abilities, being compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.

"Funding of $300,000 for the bridge replacement has now been secured from the federal government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program," Cr O’Callaghan explained.

Latrobe City’s acting manager infrastructure operations, Dean Morahan said that there are three design options able to be constructed with the identified funding: concrete T-beam, steel arch and steel truss.

"Further options for the steel arch and the steel truss bridges are to raise the centre section to increase the waterway area under the bridge and also to enhance the aesthetics of the design. It is anticipated that the bridge will be constructed at the same site as the previous bridge and at a similar level.

"We would urge anyone who uses or has an interest in the bridge to view the design concepts and to take this opportunity to provide comments," Mr Morahan concluded.

Copies of the design will be available for viewing at any of Latrobe City Council’s service centres. Comments on the designs will be welcomed until Friday 15 May 2009 and should be addressed to Dean Morahan on telephone 5128 5558, by email on deanmo@latrobe.vic.gov.au or in writing to Latrobe City Council, PO Box 264, Morwell 3840.
