National Youth Week 2011.

"More than $165,000 in National Youth Week grants are available to support 84 events and activities that will run from 1-10 April during the biggest celebration of young people in Australia," Mr Northe said.

"National Youth Week provides a wonderful opportunity for young people across the country to celebrate and be acknowledged for their contributions to their community and the National Youth Week grants will help young people in the Latrobe Valley be part of it," Mr Northe said.

"The grants will support young people to use their creative talents to run a range of activities – everything from community festivals, art workshops and skate and scooter demonstrations to award nights and film festivals.

"The theme for National Youth Week 2011 is ‘Own it’ and the Victorian National Youth Week grants support diverse groups of young people aged 12 to 25 to organise local projects, events and activities for other young people," Mr Northe said.

The grants are split into two categories, including grants for young people working with an organisation to deliver a local community-based project; and grants for young people working with an organisation to deliver an event that raises awareness of depression and anxiety (supported by Youthbeyondblue).

"As the theme for National Youth Week is ‘Own it’, I encourage Latrobe Valley youths to be active and remember to take care of your mental and physical health. Look after your friends and if you’re concerned, don’t put off talking to someone who may be going through a tough time," Mr Northe said.
