Council Approves Water Tank Rebate

Householders connected to town water will now be eligible for a $150 rebate from Baw Baw Shire Council if they install a rainwater tank.

By Baw Baw Shire Council - 19th April 2005 - Back to News

The money is in addition to a $150 rebate offered by the State Government so effectively residents can receive $300 back when they purchase and install a rainwater tank.

"This is a great scheme that will save water," said Baw Baw Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ruth McDonald.

"Council is pleased to be able to work with Gippsland Water, South East Water and the State Government in implementing this initiative.

Council has allocated up to $5,000 to support the scheme.

Any new tank installed at a residence between 1 July, 2004 and 30 June, 2005 will be eligible for the rebate provided the property is also connected to a reticulated water supply operated by Gippsland Water or South East Water.

"Residents who have a tank installed will use less water from our main storage dams. This means our water supplies will last longer and potentially ease the need for harsh restrictions during dry periods," said Cr McDonald.

"And because residents will be using their own tank water they will also save money on their water bills."

The rebate from Council is available to residents on a ‘first come, served basis’ until the $5,000 allocation is exhausted.

"If the scheme is successful Council may consider increasing the amount available for rebates next financial year," said Cr McDonald.
