The Project Wot Tha Steering Committee has secured funding from the East Gippsland and Wellington Shires’ Community Small Grants Programs to further develop the regional youth website in 2006.

East Gippsland Shire’s Community Support Planner Ryan Earles said that next year the committee would launch the "Local Voices" project that aims to recruit a total of 20 young people from 20 different communities across the Wellington and East Gippsland Shire’s to act as ‘Town Promoters’ and administer their town page on the Project Wot Tha website.

"The ‘Town Promoters’ will actively promote the website to friends, peers and the general community in their town as well as ensure town events and activities are uploaded to the site," Mr Earles said

"This will create a sense of ownership over the site for the young people and help to create an informative website developed by young people for young people."

The "Town Promoters" main role will involve:

  • Contributing local content to the site (including photo’s)
  • Promoting the website to their local community
  • Encouraging content to be submitted to the site from peers and local organisations.

Town promoters will also have the opportunity to participate in training sessions, forums and online discussions.

East Gippsland CEO Steve Kozlowski welcomed the new website initiative and said that it was one of a number of youth activities the Shire planned to support in the near future.

"We are keen to help young people make full use of their talents and realise their potential," he said.

Expressions Of Interest are currently being requested for Town Promoters with more details available on the Wot Tha website www.vicyouth.org or by phoning Ryan Earles at the East Gippsland Shire office.
