• Medical School 2008

Agents in Singapore have indicated that the new graduate medical school at Gippsland will attract interest from students in south east Asia. The agents also stated that the course is well positioned to succeed at the Gippsland Campus as reputation is critical to prospective medical students. As well as 50 places dedicated to domestic students, an additional 10 places will be available for international students.

‘It’s About Time! 8 Hour Day 1856-2006’ exhibition celebrating the anniversary of the 8 hour day will be held at the Gippsland Campus Switchback Gallery from July 4-15. To celebrate the 150th anniversary, the exhibition is travelling around Victoria stopping at nine regional centres. The Switchback Gallery is open Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm. Entry is free.

Open Day at the Gippsland Campus will be held on Saturday, August 5 from 10am-4pm with plans well underway for the big day. Staff, current and past students will be on hand to offer advice on course requirements as well as the opportunity for visitors to see first hand the excellent facilities and accommodation the Gippsland Campus has to offer. A feature of this years Open Day will be the ‘Big Gig @ Monash’. The Big Gig will bring together students from across Victoria to play against each other at the Gippsland Campus and win prizes as well as the opportunity to play at the Gippsland Education Precinct Underage Rage later in the year.

• Making the Grade

Gippsland Campus Journalism Lecturer, Andrea Baker and 15 journalism students, including three from Gippsland, are on a five day trek across the media in New York. This is the first Journalism school in Australia to undertake this tour visiting CNN, Fox TV, United Nations etc.

With the start of semester 2 on July 17, the Gippsland Campus will have a cohort of Business students from Southern Yangtze University, China and two students from Canada who will be studying Journalism.
