The community of Grantville came together recently to discuss and plan for their future. Residents and business operators discussed many issues about the development and well-being of their town. The meeting was coordinated by the Grantville and District Business Association and the Bass Coast Shire StreetLife Program, "How I stopped worrying and learned to love Bass Coast".

"People at the meeting agreed that Grantville has many strengths both as a community and as an area for business," said Cr John Hulley, Ward Councillor for Leadbeater Ward. "They also agreed that there are many opportunities that the local business association can pursue that will impact positively on the area’s future such as developing new events and putting together a tourism brochure of the area’s highlights."

At the meeting, concerns were raised about the amount of available development land in the township. People at the meeting felt that more development land needs to be available to attract more business to the area and ensure its long-term sustainability. Bass Coast Shire Council is addressing this through the development of strategic coastal planning frameworks for town such as Grantville.

Also discussed was the need for medical services and a pharmacy. Council has been working with the community over the past 12 months to secure a Rural Transaction Centre for the area. A business plan has been submitted to the Federal Government for funding for such a Centre.

Beautification of the township was also discussed. There was a strong sense of community pride at the meeting. As one of the first townships that visitors from Melbourne pass through in a visit to Bass Coast, it was felt that improvements could be made to the streetscape.

Another meeting will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday 12 November at the Grantville Hall to continue developing a business plan for the future of Grantville and address some of the issues raised at the previous meeting.
