San Remo is getting ready to welcome up to 6,000 riders and their bikes, when the annual Blessing of the Bikes rolls into town on Saturday, 19 October.

This is the third year the event has been held in San Remo and the sixth Blessing for the organisers.

The Blessing of the Bikes is a global tradition where motorcyclists gather to pay their respects to fallen riders and if they choose, be blessed by members of the clergy in the hope that it will bring safety for the coming riding season.

Bikes will begin to arrive in San Remo from 8.00am, with most arriving by 11.00am in preparation for a 1.00pm Blessing ceremony.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said the Blessing of the Bikes is an exciting day on the Bass Coast events calendar.

"Holding this event in Bass Coast and in the week leading up to our Moto GP complements our events calendar perfectly," Cr Tessari said.

San Remo traders, businesses and community groups are busy preparing and are looking forward to providing additional services for the influx of visitors expected during the event.

To add to the atmosphere, there will be a number of motorcycle related stalls, as well as live entertainment in the lead up to the ceremony and speeches.

The bikes will park in the foreshore car parks and along the full length of Marine Parade between Woolamai Grove and Back Beach Road. Depending on numbers, motorcycles may also park in Back Beach Road and Woolamai Grove.

During the event, Bergin Grove, Wynne Road and Edgar Road will be closed at Marine Parade, but will be accessible via Back Beach Road. Emergency access will be available to Marine Parade at all times.

The Blessing of the Bikes is a free, public event and open for anyone and everyone to attend – no bike required. For more information, got to visitbasscoast.com.au/events.

The Blessing of the Bikes is returning to San Remo on Saturday, 19 October. Around 6,000 motorcyclists are expected to attend the event.
